Clemente Padín

Oriundo de Lascano, Rocha, Uruguay (1939). Poeta experimental, artista y diseñador gráfico, artecorreista, performer, curador, videísta y networker. Licenciado en Letras Hispánicas en la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación de la Universidad de la República del Uruguay. Ha dirigido las revistas y publicaciones: Los Huevos del Plata (1965-1969), OVUM 10 y OVUM (1969-1975), Participación (1984-1986) y Correo del Sur (2000). Co-organizó la Contrabienal de Arte (Nueva York-París, 1977) que se opuso a la Sección Latinoamericana de la X Bienal de París, organizada por la Dirección del Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales de Montevideo, siendo detenido por la dictadura cívico-militar y condenado a 4 años de cárcel por el delito de Vilipendio y Escarnio a la Moral de las Fuerzas Armadas. A los 2 años y 3 meses fue liberado por la solidaridad artística internacional. Hasta 1984 estuvo en “libertad vigilada”, a partir de esa fecha pudo desarrollar con libertad su actividad artística y literaria. Con una extensa producción de obra gráfica ha participado en más de 200 exposiciones colectivas y más de 1.200 exposiciones de Arte Correo en todo el mundo a partir de 1971. Entre otras distinciones fue invitado a la XVI Bienal de San Pablo (1981), a la Bienal de La Habana (1984 y 2000), Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador (2002) y a la 2da Bienal de Tesalónica, Grecia (2009). Ha sido distinguido cone l Premio Pedro Figari a la trayectoria artística en su país (2005). En 2019, es premiado con el premio de Honor Bernard Heidsieck, de París-Francia.

He graduated in Hispanic Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences of the University of the Republic of Uruguay. He has directed the magazines and publications: Los Huevos del Plata (1965-1969), OVUM 10 and OVUM (1969-1975), Participación (1984-1986) and Correo del Sur (2000). He co-organized the Contrabienal de Arte (New York-Paris, 1977) that opposed the Latin American Section of the and sentenced to 4 years in prison for the crime of Vilipension and Mockery of the Morals of the Armed Forces. At 2 years and 3 months he was freed by international artistic solidarity. Until 1984 he was in “supervised freedom”, from that date he was able to freely develop his artistic and literary activity. With an extensive production of graphic work, he has participated in more than 200 group exhibitions and more than 1,200 Arte Correo exhibitions around the world since 1971. Among other distinctions, he was invited to the XVI São Paulo Biennial (1981), to the Havana Biennial (1984 and 2000), Cuenca Biennial, Ecuador (2002) and the 2nd Thessaloniki Biennial, Greece (2009). He has been awarded the Pedro Figari Award for artistic career in his country (2005). In 2019, he is awarded the Bernard Heidsieck Honor Prize, from Paris-France.
